About
Matthew Goldstein, MD, graduated with honors and distinction from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences in 2003. He received his medical degree from the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine (Brooklyn, New York) in 2007, and completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
During his orthopedic training, Dr. Goldstein was awarded the North Shore-LIJ Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Resident of the Year Award in 2010 and the Jodi Fisher Memorial Excellence in Orthopaedic Research Award in 2011. He is also a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
Following his residency training, Dr. Goldstein was selected for a fellowship in spinal surgery at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders and Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California.
After completing his fellowship training in 2013, Dr. Goldstein joined Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative management of spinal disorders, including degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, lumbar and cervical disc herniations, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, adjacent segment disease after fusion, pediatric and adult scoliosis, and other spinal deformities.
Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), Dr. Goldstein is trained in and practices minimally invasive techniques for spine surgery and spinal reconstruction for motion and muscular preservation.
Dr. Goldstein recognizes how important it is that his patients understand their symptoms, condition, and treatment options. He believes that physical fitness, exercise, and diet play a key role in spinal, musculoskeletal, and overall health.
While surgery may be necessary, Dr. Goldstein believes in exhausting all nonoperative modalities and in preoperative optimization before surgery.
Dr. Goldstein is an active member of the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital, North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and Winthrop University Hospital.
He has authored or co-authored multiple publications, including textbook chapters, review articles, and peer-reviewed journal articles on a wide range of orthopedic conditions. His research has been presented at both national and international meetings.
Dr. Goldstein is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), candidate fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), and active member of the North American Spine Society (NASS) and Society of Lateral Access Surgeons (SOLAS).
Dr. Goldstein has been selected to New York Super Doctors Rising Stars editions in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He has also has been selected as a Doctor of Distinction by Long Island Pulse Magazine in 2017.
